As a child, my father often drove our family through the night to remote holiday destinations. I remember many times waking in the morning to glorious vistas and thrilling sunrises that made my heart leap. I want that feeling of spiritual exuberance when I stand back from my paintings. And I want to share the glow and the magnificence I find in nature through my artwork.
I’m inspired by the brilliance and the vibrancy in sunshine and clouds as well as sublime shadows and the subtle indications of the life beyond our view. Painting from my own photography, I attempt to bring the viewer on my journey to deep and distant stillness.
I love the sensual experiences nature offers and I feel my artwork reflects the deep connection and renewal I find on my treks into this beautiful world of ours. My work often blurs the definition of true color with deference to my creative voice. Color and light speak a clearer language for me than words alone, and I am constantly challenged to share this existential experience.
I have always been fascinated by moody lighting and mirrored reflections, and I find these themes play prominently in my work. If there is opportunity for nature to show us her deepest secrets, how better than through glimpses into our own soul in the solitude beyond the horizon?
My main creative focus is painting, and I switch between oil paint, watercolor and photography depending on the project at hand. My creative guidance and inspirations are many and diverse, and I am grateful to all my teachers, guides and friends. Please join me in the stillness and beauty art can offer as we manage the dynamic and uncertain times ahead. I hope to share my love for beauty and in the process form connections yet unimagined.
All my best, Audrey Gale
